I just finished my Bachelor of Communications Degree at Mount Royal University, re-entering school and making this short has enabled me to rebuild my confidence, creativity and restart my passion for filmmaking.
Horror storytelling is medicine for me and this story illustrates how I’ve used the genre to make sense of things. Drained is the culmination of my knowledge and love for horror.
Director Statement
My influences include Edgar Allan Poe, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Takashi Shimizu, Hideo Nakata, and Wes Craven. These are some of the horror storytellers that have provided me with a personal connection to the genre.
Homaging the styles of these horror masters, this story uses surreal nightmare imagery, a non-linear narrative and the bending of reality to explore the relationship of complicated, guilt-ridden characters.
